The Week in Audio

What with the all-new Media Podcast, changes at MediaGuardian and specials for Talking TV and BAFTA's The Guru, I thought I'd give a sense of what's been going on...

First episode saw Media Talk regular Paul Robinson and The Sun's Stig Abel drop by our new home in Denmark Street, Soho. Stig came dressed for the occasion...

Stig n' Spats

You'll find the format isn't much different from Media Talk; I'll be doing announcements before we start the show proper, talking about crowdfunding and suchlike, keeping the editorial separate from the admin.

Olly Mann is keeping the presenter chair warm and did a fantastic job with a solid media week, news-wise. Thanks also to Soho Create for lending us their studios and Sam Bonham for getting us a logo all sorted. Oh and if you're interested, the music is something I've used to launch practically every podcast in the past five years - all the way back to rethinkdaily. It's by composer Dan Weltman, who is available for hire and probably sick of me talking about him.

Last week we did a special on how to make it in the film/tv industry without moving to London. All recorded on location, Rhianna Dhillon (she of BBC Radio 1) and I met Warp Films in Sheffield, Yogscast in Bristol and Red Productions in Manchester. There's also a frankly bizarre sketch by voice artist Stephen Alan Yorke.

Broadcast: Talking TV

And then, there are the specials. On Wednesday I went to Broadcast's Media Summit, hosted (coincidentally) at BAFTA's 195 Piccadilly to cover speeches by ITV's Adam Crozier and Channel 4's David Abrahams, then chat to delegates.

Torin Douglas chaired the event for a packed eight hours - no small feat. As I mentioned to him afterwards, whatever they're paying him, it should be more. That probably won't ingratiate me to the editor.

MediaGuardian

If you've made it this far, then congratulations. Here's the skinny on what's going on at the Guardian. As we hinted in the Radio Academy Awards special, there will occasionally on the Media Talk feed. I'm in the process of updating it with new branding, but this will give you a sense:

It's a short series of four episodes, all coming out in the next few days, coinciding with Sheffield Doc/Fest - where there's a new award for audio documentaries. It's a very simple idea that has come together really well: we hear extracts from extraordinary programmes that radio nut Vicky Frost then discusses with Nina Garthwaite (she of In The Dark). Vicky hadn't heard the programmes beforehand, so these are genuine reactions to some quite challenging content. I urge you to listen - and stay subscribed for more treats in the future.
